Who this pathway is for

Retirees and other applicants who receive a permanent, stable pension from abroad. The pension evidence matters more than an assumed retirement age.

Key requirements

• Proof of a permanent foreign pension of at least US$1,000 monthly.
• Passport and required identity, birth and criminal-record documents.
• Apostilles or legalization and Spanish translations where required.
• Application documents and fees, followed by CCSS enrollment and documentation when required after approval.

What this pathway offers

• A temporary residence route based on pension income.
• Qualifying dependents may be included.
• A possible route to permanent residence after meeting the residence-period rules.

Important limitations

• A savings balance or active salary is not the same as a qualifying pension.
• Residency does not automatically authorize unrestricted local employment.
• Do not assume historical import or tax incentives remain open to new applications.
